Zuzanna Nowicka, PhD student at our Department, was a participant of the 10th edition of the Integrated Mathematical Oncology workshop organized by the Moffitt Cancer Center (Tampa, USA). During the week-long workshop, the team which Dr. Nowicka was part of created mathematical models describing the development of glioblastoma multiforme taking into account the ploidy of cancer cells and the availability of nutrients in the tumor microenvironment. The result of this work, presentation “Glioblastoma communities: exploiting interactions between ploidy and host physiology” was awarded first place during the workshop, winning the funding of USD 50 000 for planned preliminary studies.
