We are happy to share that our latest study, led by Agata Pastorczak, MD, PhD in collaboration with our PhD student Zuzanna Nowicka, MD and former member, Marcin Stańczak, MD, has been published in Leukemia. This groundbreaking research explores the genetic hallmarks and clinical implications of chromothripsis in childhood T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL).

Chromothripsis, a form of genomic instability, leads to massive chromosome rearrangements, causing significant alterations in cancer cells. The study reveals that chromothripsis, though infrequent, is significantly associated with inferior prognosis in pediatric T-ALL, particularly in patients with predisposing syndromes like Nijmegen breakage syndrome and Li-Fraumeni syndrome.

The results suggest that chromothripsis might serve as a marker for poor prognosis, guiding more personalized treatment strategies for young patients with T-ALL.
