We are pleased to share that our PhD student, Jędrzej Chrzanowski, MD, has coauthored a recently published manuscript in the “Diabetologia”, entitled “GLP1-E2 therapy delays autoimmune diabetes in late-stage prediabetic NOD mice and potentiates low-dose anti-CD3 therapy for enhanced disease protection”. The publication presents preclinical evidence that combining low-dose anti-CD3 immunotherapy with GLP1-E2, a GLP-1/estradiol conjugate designed to support pancreatic beta cell survival, may substantially improve protection against autoimmune diabetes progression. Using late-stage prediabetic NOD mice, the authors demonstrated that combination therapy delayed disease onset, reduced the incidence of diabetes, and produced durable protective effects even after treatment cessation. Dr. Chrzanowski contributed to the analysis of spatial transcriptomic data, which revealed reduced inflammatory signaling and beta-cell stress, along with the restoration of healthier endocrine cell states.
The study highlights the growing importance of combination therapeutic strategies in type 1 diabetes – integrating immunomodulation with direct beta cell protection to achieve more durable disease prevention.
