We are pleased to announce that Barbara Pernak, a fourth-year medical student actively engaged in research at the Department of Biostatistics and Translational Medicine, achieved 1st place in the Endocrinology & Gastroenterology session at the International Student Congress of (Bio)Medical Sciences (ISCOMS) 2026, currently taking place in Groningen, the Netherlands.

The award was granted for the oral presentation entitled “Cell-free circulating DNA and its beta-cell-derived fraction are associated with residual insulin secretion during 12 months following diagnosis of stage 3 type 1 diabetes.”

ISCOMS is one of the largest international biomedical congresses for students worldwide, bringing together young researchers and future physicians from many countries.
