The Ulam programme commemorates a brilliant Polish mathematician – Stanislaw Ulam, a co-author of the Scottish Book and a member of Lviv School of Mathematicics, who went to the USA just before the breakout of the Second World War, where he joined the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and then became an associate professor at several American universities.
