We are delighted to announce that three grants from the National Science Centre (NCN) have been awarded for projects conducted in our Department. This recognition opens new opportunities and allows us to continue contributing to the advancement of science and medicine.
In the OPUS competition, funding was awarded to the project of Prof. Wojciech Fendler, MD, PhD, titled “Cholecystokinin and its receptor as new therapeutic and diagnostic targets in metabolic disorders”. The study, conducted in collaboration with the University of Łódź, focuses on the newly discovered hormone cholecystokinin and its receptor GPR146 as potential targets for future therapies for lipid disorders and metabolic diseases. We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Aleksandra Ryk, PhD, and Jędrzej Chrzanowski, MD, who co-authored the proposal and made significant contributions to its development.
The PRELUDIUM grant was awarded to MSc Katarzyna Płoszka for her project “mall non-coding RNAs as early indicators of tumorigenesis in hereditary DNA repair disordersS”. The project aims to identify circulating short RNAs as potential biomarkers of early carcinogenesis in patients with Ataxia-Telangiectasia and Nijmegen Breakage Syndrome, which may enable non-invasive and precise monitoring of cancer risk in these genetic syndromes in the future. We express our gratitude to Prof. Wojciech Fendler, MD, PhD, for his scientific supervision of the project, and to Prof. Agata Pastorczak, PhD, for her substantive support and contribution to the development of the research concept.
The third awarded PRELUDIUM project, titled “The JAK/STAT pathway as a molecular driver of endometriosis: therapeutic potential of JAK inhibition”, led by Aleksander Rycerz, MD, focuses on the role of key inflammatory mechanisms in endometriosis and the possibility of blocking them with JAK inhibitors as a potential treatment approach. We also express our appreciation to Dr. Monika Golińska, PhD, for her contribution to the project preparation.
We warmly congratulate all the laureates and wish them success in carrying out their research!
