We are pleased to announce that we have published a paper entitled Comparative Analysis of microRNA Expression in Serum and Plasma in Patients Screened for BRCA1 or BRCA2 Mutations in the journal Biomarker Research. Congratulations to the first author, Urszula Smyczyńska PhD MSc, and to our team— Aleksander Rycerz MD BSs, Klaudia Kozłowska PhD MSc, and Prof. Wojciech Fendler—on this achievement! We congratulate and thank our Coauthors from other institutions for fruitful collaboration!
The aim of the study was to determine whether the amount of detected miRNA depends on the type of biological material (plasma, serum) and the measurement method (miRNA sequencing, RT-qPCR). The data used in the study came from three research centers (two in the USA and one in the United Kingdom).
The analysis showed that, in sequencing, differences in miRNA abundance between serum and plasma are more clearly visible than in qPCR. The differences in miRNA levels between serum and plasma are so pronounced that diagnostic tests based on miRNA biomarkers require calibration to a specific type of biological material.
