A new paper developed in collaboration with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, USA has been published in the British Journal of Haematology. Damian Mikulski is the first author of the study.
The study analyzed data from 1,680 patients with multiple myeloma who underwent upfront autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation (autoHCT).
The findings indicate that monosomy 13 or deletion 13q – present in 35% of the analyzed patients – is an independent predictor of shorter progression-free survival and overall survival. Its adverse prognostic impact was further amplified by the presence of other high-risk cytogenetic abnormalities.
These results may contribute to a more accurate assessment and interpretation of cytogenetic risk in patients with multiple myeloma.
